Wednesday, January 16, 7:00 p.m. @ JCC Directed by Tali Shemesh (Israel, 2006) * 90 minutes * Hebrew with English subtitles 10 o*clock, Saturday morning. A group of elderly women and men carry plastic lawn chairs across the Mount Herzl National Cemetery in Jerusalem to sit in a circle in the shade of an old pine tree. For over two decades, they meet between the graves of the nation's dignitaries and debate the history of modern philosophy, read poetry, eat lunch and determine the fate of the Jewish nation. As death decimates the group that has given meaning to their lives, the film explores conflicts and family secrets. The result is a poignant, intimate, sometimes hilarious portrait of the Holocaust generation like you*ve never seen it before. |
