1943 in Nazi occupied Holland. Jack, a sweet and kind man, is separated from Manja, his flirtatious and mercurial wife. He is waiting until after the war is over to divorce her. Then he meets Ina and they fall in love. All three are deported and sent to the same camp and assigned to the same barracks and the lovers resort to writing secret love letters with stolen paper and pencils.
